my 4,500 hexagons
documentary short
My 4,500 Hexagons is a documentary short that examines transracial adoption, Asian American immigration, family, and healing.
Directed by Nityasya Belapurkar and Joe Soonthornsawad
Brooklyn-based artist Anni Reffsin created a quilt that weaves over 4,500 hexagons together, each hexagon being a textile fragment collected from her personal relationships, pursuits, and creative projects over a 7 year period. The documentary follows the artist’s journey to complete the quilt while coming to terms with her relationship with her mother and family, and tackle larger questions of belonging in this country.
